Guarantee Scheme

Undergraduate Guarantee Scheme

The University guarantees a place in University accommodation to all first year Undergraduates providing they:

- Have applied to our University through UCAS (not clearing)

- Have accepted their course offer firmly by 1 September 2009

- Have submitted an accommodation application by 31 May 2009 (home and EU students) and 31 July 2009 (International students)

- Are coming to University alone (not with family or partner)

- Are applying for a full academic session (can choose 42 or 50 week contracts)

Postgraduate Guarantee Scheme

- The University guarantees a place in University accommodation to all first year international students providing they:

- Have accepted their course offer firmly by 1 September 2009

- Have submitted an accommodation application by 31 July 2009

- Are coming to University alone (not with family or partner)

- Are applying for a full academic session (50 week contracts)

UK based Postgraduates & Family/ Couple Accommodation

The guarantee scheme does not apply to UK based Postgraduates or students bring their family or partner. For a separate application form please email Lorraine Bartram - l.a.bartram@bham.ac.uk. The University has a limited number of managed houses and flats that may be suitable.

Accommodation allocations are made on a date order basis, so it is advisable to apply as soon as possible. Some sites are oversubscribed, therefore first choice accommodation cannot always be guaranteed and we will offer a suitable alternative.

If your application falls outside the conditions of the guarantee scheme (late, clearing and insurance applicants), you are still welcome to apply for university accommodation. In practice Housing Services is usually able to accommodate some applicants that do not fall into the guarantee scheme. If we cannot offer University campus accommodation you will be advised in September of the other possibilities open to you.

You must undertake to remain in your University accommodation for the whole of your first year here. You will be required to sign a legally binding contract and pay a £550 pre-payment before you can move in to your room.

IMPORTANT - For UK Undergraduates awaiting their A level results in mid-August, we allocate their accommodation within 10 to 14 days from this date. However, if you are planning to be on holiday during this time, and will not have access to your registered email account, it is essential you advise Housing Services in advance to email address ugradaccom@bham.ac.uk of your circumstances in order for your allocation acceptance to be processed. Failure to do so may result in your allocation being cancelled unnecessarily.
