A new service is available for students not eligible for University accommodation under the Guarantee Scheme or choose to live off-campus.

www.birminghamstudentpad.co.uk introduced by The University of Birmingham and our partner www.studentpad.co.uk can help identify property suited to your needs quickly and easily, through a comprehensive database including shared houses, bed-sits and family accommodation.

Average Rent for 2009:
• Single room (flat share with 3 to 4 rooms) £55 - £66 per week (bills extra)
• Three-bedroom house for a family £250 - £700 per calendar month (bills extra)

Additional Information
Most landlords in the United Kingdom now expect full rent for 52 weeks of the year.

You will need to visit Birmingham at some time during the summer to view the accommodation. Your own transport is recommended to view several properties in different areas. Temporary accommodation is available during the summer vacation in certain University residences. Details can be obtained from Housing Services.

The above prices may or may not include water rates. If a house is completely occupied by full-time registered students the property is exempt from Council Tax. Students will need to send off a photocopy of their Council Tax Exemption Certificate and complete a Council Tax Exemption Form for the Birmingham City Council. These forms are available at Housing Services or you may obtain one from the Council Tax office on 0121 303 9000. The Council Tax Exemption Certificates are provided by telephoning the Student Records Department.

Properties advertised through Housing Services meet Gas and Electrical Safety standards.

All landlords on the site are accredited with the Midlands Landlord Accreditation Scheme which means that they have proven themselves to be 'fit and proper' landlords.  For a list of landlords who have been fully accredited so far please visit here.

Information For Landlords

Are you a landlord interested in increasing  exposing your property to students?  Then you may wish to consider Birmingham Student Pad which is the first point of call for our students searching in the private sector.  For current advertising fees, requirements and an application form please visit here.

Please aware though that all landlords advertising on the Birmingham Student Pad are required to be accredited by the Midland Landlords Accreditation Scheme (MLAS).

What is the Midland Landlord Accreditation Scheme?

The MLAS was set up to improve standards in all aspects of the private rented sector by empowering landlords with up to date knowledge of legislation.

Currently, accreditation is voluntary but it may be prudent for landlords to equip themselves with crucial information that will help  increase the standards of their properties and services.

For more information on the course and how to apply please use the form here or the one on the right hand side.
